This is a more traditional speed camera detector unit that actually detects all radar frequencies and laser at 904nm as used by the mobile 'safety camera vans' and the handheld laser guns. Radar is used by Gatso cameras and in some tripod mounted equipment and heldheld guns used across Europe.
Rather than being a GPS/Database driven unit that requires a subscription and regular updates, this unit simply works by detecting the frequencies emitted by speed trap equipment. While a radar detector like this Escape RD300 will not alert you to the digital cameras like SPECS as they emit no signals, it can tell you when traps like Gatso cameras are actually active and offers good coverage on mobile traps where some database units sometimes struggle.
This system is a good companion to satellite navigation systems that are database driven and has also been designed with the European market in mind and countries where no databases of camera locations exist like Abu Dhabi and Dubai in the UAE. Please note radar detectors are illegal in many European countries and parts of the Middle East.
This radar detector will give both audio and visual alerts when it detects one of the 12 frequencies it monitors on X, K, Ka and Ku band radar. Upon detection the unit will be with increasing frequency as you get closer to the speed trap and consequently the signal gets stronger. It will light up the LED on the display corresponding with the radar or laser band detected.
